Church Street

Based on Childe Hassan Urban Impressionism/ How can you represent your city in a particular weather season or time of day? This painting is of Church Street in Georgetown Ontario. Right by the Helson gallery. It was a cold sunny day after a snowstorm the sun was so strong that despite the cold the snow was beginning to melt. I could have chosen a « pretty little Winter scene » but when I looked up this street I thought this is what Winter in Canada is often really like! It’s not always the perfect « Christmas Card » scene. Walking through wet snow and slush is often the reality. I tried to depict the feeling of an ordinary day of a long Winter season.
